Live A Normal Life By Learning To Overcome Panic Attacks

Some individuals are more prone to anxiety disorders than others maybe because of a trauma when younger, genetics, or just environmental stress. No matter the reasons everyone can learn to overcome panic attacks. There are three main tools which will allow the person to have the protective armor needed to combat those stressful events before they turn into full blown episodes. The steps to accessing these tools is to learn first how to breathe properly, practice positive self talk, and perform mild exercise.

Panic attacks happen when a person reacts to a stressful situation unrealistically by exhibiting intense terror. Most everyone goes through stress on a daily basis as a part of life. They may become anxious, nervous or shaky, but they get past it, whereas someone with a panic disorder will not. That is because his feelings are intensified to the point of him believing he may be in a dangerous situation. The fight or flight response is to run and get away as fast as possible. Some people with social phobias or panic disorders tend to hide away from the world inside their homes. In rare cases, the person will not set foot outdoors for many years.

Breathing for relaxation will calm the person who is anxious, and which in and of itself will help him overcome panic attacks. Still, the other tools help to strengthen the resolve to get better when used in combination with the breathing exercises. When breathing for anxiety, it is important to inhale deeply to fill up the lungs and stomach. This is done by pulling air in through the nose and pushing the stomach outward. Then exhale through the mouth and pull the stomach muscles in at the same time. This is a great way to strengthen the body's core too.

Positive self talk to overcome panic attacks work by telling himself the situation is not dangerous, nor fatal and that nothing bad will happen to him, that it is only a panic attack and it will pass. Eventually with practice, panic attacks will become less and less and then disappear altogether. Exercise by walking, swimming and stretching help release the endorphins responsible for feeling good. Intense exercise is not necessary for full benefits and a return to a normal life.
